If you are like most tech users, you have more than one computer or mobile device. You might have an IPhone, an iPad, a desktop at work and a laptop at home.Keeping track of all your documents, making sure they are all transferred, updated, and available on all your systems can be a complex and difficult task.

Maybe you email yourself new documents or rely on a USB drive.Well, I’m here to tell you about an easier way to keep all your documents and information in one place, accessible by all your systems, automatically updated and, best of all, available anywhere, anytime.

What is the name of this wondrous system? Well, actually, there are quite a few, including one that Google is debuting. But my favorite and the one I find easiest to use is Dropbox. Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring your photos, docs, and videos anywhere and share them easily. Never email yourself a file again!

Any file you save to Dropbox also instantly syncs your computers, phones, and the Dropbox website (if you go online on those devices). You get 2GB of space on Dropbox for free, with subscriptions up to 100GB available. Best of all, your files are always available from the secure Dropbox website. Dropbox works with Windows, Mac, Linux, iPad, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.

Another great feature of Dropbox is that it works even when you are offline. You always have your files, whether or not you have a connection. Dropbox also saves time by transferring just the parts of a file that change (not the whole thing). You can also manually set bandwidth limits; that way Dropbox won’t hog your connection.

Another great feature of Dropbox is the ability to simply share files. Shared folders allow people to work together on the same projects and documents. Invite friends, family or teammates to a folder. It’ll be as if you saved the folder to their computers. You can also have the advantage of seeing other people’s changes instantly.

You can also create photo galleries viewable by anyone you choose. All you have to do is send a link to any file in your Dropbox using your Public folder.

Worried about the safety and security of you files, what with all this sharing going on? Don’t be! Dropbox protects your files without you needing to think about it. Dropbox keeps a one-month history of your work.

That way, any changes can be undone, and files can be undeleted. Dropbox also uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and AES-256 bit encryption, to protect your information.

If this all sounds good to you, then visit www.dropbox.com, and download the program for free. Save and share up to 2GB of data without any charge. Or, if you need more room, the rates are very affordable.

Never get stuck emailing your files home again. With Dropbox, every file can be accessible everywhere; at home, at work, on the go, or even far, far away. Don’t let your files get lost in the shuffle. Download Dropbox today.

VoIP communication

All those who run businesses small and large need to make careful considerations before jumping onto the latest trends in technology. Holding onto your basic business traditions can make a lot of sense in this world where the latest fad has others diving in without taking the time needed to consider if such a venture will actually help their business in the long run.

However, one technological advance that you might want to consider is switching from your traditional phone system to an online internet phone system which has shown over the past decade to be reliable, more versatile and less expensive to operate than their traditional counterpart.

An online phone system or VoIP which stands for Voice over Internet Protocol can help advance your business on several fronts while providing top quality, reliable service that you expect.

VoIP Can Save You Time

Consider your fax system, which generally consists of a bulky unit that takes up valuable space and that many employees have to use. Traditionally, a person would have to print out their documents and wait in line at the fax machine to send them. During that time, any of your clients trying to fax you information gets a busy signal and they have to wait as well.

With an online fax system, you don’t have to print out any documents and your employees can send them from anywhere. This means you get more from your employees who are not wasting time waiting on the fax machine to be free and you keep your clients happier by not having the fax lines tied up.

VoIP Can Save You Effort

When you go VoIP, you literally unchain your employees from their desks where they can become more efficient and get more tasks done all while saving you money.

Now your employees’ mobile devices can tie directly into the phone system, meaning that when they go on a business trip or just around the corner to get office supplies you call them and get them new information without having to leave a voice mail and hope they get the message soon.

When your employees get more done, your business gets more done and becomes more efficient and focused on serving the needs of your customers.

VoIP Can Save You Money

This is probably the biggest attraction to switching your phone system over to VoIP. Traditional phone service generally offers rates that are far more expensive than using the internet based online system that offers packages for a fraction of the cost.

Plus, these packages are customized for your needs and can be adapted when your business changes, working with you to provide the best service along with the right rates that are appropriate for the amount of phone traffic your business generates. Not to mention the amount of paper you save when going to an online fax system.

In terms of time, effort and money, going to a VoIP or online business phone system makes good sense today and tomorrow.

Copyright

Megaupload – The Hong Kong based file hosting service established in the year 2005 offers a number of options to store and view files in the virtual world. Most of the companies’ websites were shutdown on 19th January, 2012 as the company came under the brunt of US Justice Department for purported copyright violation acts.

Interestingly, a number of denial-of-service attacks were made on websites belonging to US Government & Pro copyright organizations.

Music and Movie Industries Vs Megaupload

Music and movie industries are trying their level best to prevent unauthorized distribution of copyright materials in digital form through online sources.

It is quite common that a variety of information is shared through various social networking sites and file sharing services such as Facebook, Dropbox, YouTube and YouSendIt. Sharing of files includes both legitimate and illegitimate files.

Why should Megaupload come under the US Justice Department’s scanner? Probably the Megaupload went one extra mile than other service providers! It is reported that Megaupload paid users who uploaded movies and music files and complete secrecy is maintained in doing so.

It is understood that Megaupload executives had made huge sums of money by charging users in the form of subscription. The processes apparently amount to violation of copyrights of professional singers, writers and movie producers.

Megaupload’s extremity is traced by communities which work to fight against copyright violations. On the other hand, the monopolistic action of FBI by shutting down the site comes to strong criticism.

It is a common practice to use digital lockers to store various kinds of online data. Even music consultants are using cloud based storage systems to store and share information to their clients and customers.

Internet and Copyright Violations

It is easy, convenient and affordable to store content on the web. Even though organizers of sites like YouTube are committed to uphold the integrity of music producers, it is not possible to vouch the content posted by users all the time.

Many-a-times website owners are sued for the illegal or copyrighted materials posted on the sites by users. The legal battle continues in spite of strong criticism by both pro-freedom and pro-copyright campaigners.

Those who stand for freedom argue that by downloading the music or video from a website they are not depriving the privilege of those who shared the content. They argue that if a customer purchases a DVD from a music store and distributes his friends without any commercial interest, it is not being treated as stealing (at least not policed).

On the other hand, a person will purchase or copy the content from somewhere and if it is distributed through online channels, it is voiced as pirate activity.

What is Copyright Violation and What is not?

Lawmakers have to draw the clear distinction between physical stealing and virtual stealing. The second part is that who is responsible to take action against violation should be sorted out. In Megaupload case, the Government has taken action unilaterally bowing to the pressure from music producers.

There should be a free and fair investigation of the matter in a court of law. Those who are being accused should be given the opportunity to respond against the charges. The web is great platform which has a unique advantage to share thoughts and ideas.

In the name of piracy and copyrights the lawmakers should not curtail the privacy and liberty of individuals. At the same time, individuals should not take undue advantage of music and other artistic producer’s efforts who have absolute rights on each and every copy sold on the planet of earth.

Mozilla Collusion

The internet is a widespread network of information, contacts, and connections. Every important web service that you have used, have tracked your progress and analyzed your choices to understand the best recourse to help you.

However, not many people are aware of this continual progress of tracking technology. Every prominent search engine, your computer brands and even the day-to-day applications that you use, need to have access to your live actions on the web.

While you might not be able to understand the full extent of the technical process at play, Mozilla’s collusion is a new add-on feature that can at least help you understand the reverse procedure of your progress check by other services.

How Collusion Functions?

Collusion keeps a steady track of the entire website URLs that you visit throughout the day. It further creates an analytical pictograph of the sites that are tracking you, the steps in their tracking and your actions that speeds up this process.

All this information is collected, analyzed and represented in real time (with a deficit range of seconds), thus giving you a healthy head start in  removing the tabs on your actions and making sure that your vital information do not get in to the wrong circles.

Downloading & Installing  Collusion

The procedure necessary to equip your browser with this feature is as simple as downloading the setup and going through standard installation steps.

Just go to the official Firefox website and click on the Collusion Add-on button to start the setup download.

When you are re-directed to the collusion download page, you will also find important reviews by some of the people who have already used the feature and shared their experiences.

Some of these are more adept than others in the technological aspects but most of them are regular users and the common comment has been about the ease of using the feature.

On getting to the download page, you will see a bright (yellow) button”+Add to Firefox”. Pressing this button will start the downloading process while you peruse the reviews.

Once the downloading process is complete, run the setup. Within seconds, you will be informed of successful installation. This will prompt automatic launching of the add-on.

In a rare case, if the add on does not launch automatically, go to the Firefox browser menu (top left corner), select Add-Ons option and under this enable Collusion.

Collusion is Beneficial to the Average Users

The biggest draw to this feature is the amount of transparency afforded to normal web users, even those who do not have much of a hold on the technological intricacies.

The visualization process of the pictographs, complete with linked cookies showing the exact path taken to track your steps on the Internet, is definitely a vital step towards alerting users making them more aware and in turn safer.

Most of these tracking are without consent and apart from aiding advertisers and sales databases (which is a fair nuisance); they might also be a vital tool for the wrong kind of crowd (in some cases).

Technology is developing fast and this is an approach to encourage the trend of personalization (even of your online life).
